Dontae Johnson may not be a household name for Seattle Seahawks' fans, but the team certainly thought he had a chance to be. Signed this offseason by the team, many thought that Johnson would end up being the replacement for Richard Sherman. Obviously, that has not been the case and he is already on his way out of town.

According to a report from Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Johnson is healthy and will be free to sign with any team he chooses. There are quite a few teams that could use some cornerback help.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network also chimed in with the thoughts about Dontae Johnson potentially being a replacement for Sherman when he was originally signed.

To say that this move comes as a bit of a surprise would be reasonable. Johnson was unable to play in the first three games of the season, but was still expected to return to the field to a role. Seattle apparently does not think that he fits with its long-term vision anymore.

Last season with the San Francisco 49ers, Johnson was one of the top defensive playmakers that they had. He finished the year with 77 tackles, an interception, a defensive touchdown, and seven defended passes. Those numbers show how talented he is and the potential that he will bring with him.

Expect to see another team swoop in and pick Johnson up in the near future. He is too talented to sit on the market long.

Seattle is making the move that it feels is right, but this could come back to be a mistake.
