The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made a point of keeping last year's championship roster mostly intact to this point.
Tampa Bay re-signed all of Shaquil Barrett, Lavonte David, Rob Gronkowski, and Leonard Fournette in free agency. Will wide receiver Antonio Brown also return to the Bucs?
Head coach Bruce Arians gave a rather vague answer Tuesday, saying the Bucs will wait out Brown's market and see what they can do:
“We’re just gonna take our time,” Arians said, per Grace Remington of CBS Tampa. “There's offers out there. We’ll see how it goes.”
This would seem to suggest the Bucs would like to have Brown back, but only at a certain price threshold. That makes sense, considering Tampa Bay's current cap situation.
Article Continues BelowThe Bucs were somewhat fortunate to have some cap flexibility heading into the offseason, though they of course had a number of internal free agents. But the efforts to bring everybody back have made a pretty large dent in that cap space. Actually, Tampa Bay currently ranks dead last in cap space, per Over The Cap.
Brown had a strong showing in his brief stint with the Bucs last season. He hauled in 45 receptions for 483 yards and four touchdowns in eight games during the regular season before nabbing a pair of receiving touchdowns in the playoffs.
Still, it remains to be seen what value Brown has around the league given he will be 33 in July and has a long history of issues off the field.
The Bucs might have to let Brown walk if he gets a sweet offer to go elsewhere. But the uncertainty of his market could also bring him back to Tampa Bay.
