The Philadelphia Eagles travel to Tampa Bay to square off with Tom Brady and the Buccaneers in the NFC Wild Card matchup Sunday. Ahead of their game, Eagles defensive coordinator gave an interesting take on the approach the team needs to take.
As reported by the Associated Press, Gannon said ““This guy, he's a trained killer, and he knows how to play good offense and what he needs to do to keep his offense on track, so it's going to be a big-time challenge,” referring to Brady.
Tom Brady picked apart his defense earlier this season. Back in Week 6, Tampa Bay beat Philadelphia 28-22, but the score does not property indicate how one-sided the game was.
Article Continues BelowBrady and the Buccaneers led 28-7 late in the 3rd quarter and looked like they had packed it in. A couple of late touchdown runs from Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts made it look respectable, but the game was not played evenly.
Brady finished the game 34 of 42 for 297 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw one interception. The good news for Eagles fans was that the leading receiver for Brady was Antonio Brown. He force fed AB to the tune of nine catches on 13 targets, for 93 yards and a touchdown. Obviously, the Buccaneers are without Brown and Chris Godwin for this game.
It would make sense that Gannon will place Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay on Mike Evans. That leaves Rob Gronkowski as the only proven weapon for Brady. But in order for the Eagles to pull off the upset, they will need to slow down Leonard Fournette, who is expected to make his return this weekend.
