When Tom Brady decided to unretire and return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it raised one major question: why did he retire in the first place?

Brady's father answered that by revealing to the media that his son was “pressured by outside forces” to walk away. However, Tom's former New England Patriots teammate Tedy Bruschi is not buying the explanation as he theorized that something happened that forced the NFL icon to return.

Bruschi, who was able to play alongside Brady since the QB was drafted in 2000 until 2008, shared his familiarity with the signal-caller as a “calculated” man. That is why he was shocked that the Buccaneers star changed his mind about retirement.

“Yeah, just surprising to me. I mean, I haven't spoken to him or anything like that, but that word you just said … that ‘calculated' word, it just defines him,” Bruschi said during his appearance on ESPN’s latest episode of Get Up. … “He had a plan, and something didn’t work out. Because this isn't a guy that just, like, ‘You know, let me just take this day-to-day and see what we'll do; no, I don’t feel good, I’m just gonna come back.'”

“Something happened here and that’s why this is so unexpected for me. … I know his father’s comments, in terms of the media, [but] I’m not buying it. This guy's calculated. He knew exactly what he was doing but something didn't work out.”

Tom Brady has yet to really speak out about his return to the NFL after just 40 days of retirement. There were already talks that he could come back even just a week after he called it a career, but for him to actually do it still came as a big surprise.

To recall, when Brady announced his retirement, he shared that he could no longer make the same competitive commitment that he does every year, which was why he's saying good bye. In other interviews, he also shared his desire to spend more time with his wife and kids.

With that said, it is definitely bewildering what led to Brady's decision to come back. His father's explanation that he was pressured to do it might offer some explanation why he suddenly had a change of heart. But it is surely intriguing to check if something really happened behind the scenes that caused him one of the biggest reversals in NFL history.
