The NFL has faced a surge of positive COVID-19 cases in recent weeks. But instead of heightening its crack down of players infected, a majority of whom are asymptomatic, they've decided to go in the other direction. It doesn't hurt that a certain Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback is in full support of the changes.
Buccaneers star Tom Brady was vocal on his Let's Go! podcast in full support of the lessened testing that the NFL and NFLPA have agreed upon to keep more players available as the season enters its crucial final weeks.

I feel like the people and the players who have done everything right to put themselves in a position to play every week and then to get knocked out being asymptomatic, with understanding that there’s zero risk of spreading it during a game, makes no sense. That’s pretty much well-proved and documented over the last year and a half, so. There’s absolutely an opportunity for us to get it whether we’re playing football or not. So I’m just happy we’re all out there playing football.”
The Buccaneers have been hit with their own bad injury luck of late, but it hasn't had much to do with COVID-19 protocols. Chris Godwin has been ruled out for the season while both Mike Evans and Leonard Fournette sustained injuries in their latest contest vs. the New Orleans Saints.
While other players fall victim to legitimate injuries, potentially losing more players to health and safety protocols would truly challenge Tampa Bay's depth. Tom Brady and Co. have their sights set on another Super Bowl run – and they'll need their best players on the field to do it.
