The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made a splash in free agency with the addition of quarterback Tom Brady. It seems they could very well be looking to add yet another piece to their high-powered offense in the 2020 NFL Draft.
ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. predicts that the Buccaneers may be looking to take Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor in the second round of this year's draft:
“Taylor's 4.39 40-yard dash at the combine was an eye-opener, though, and there's a chance he's the top back off the board.”
Taylor had already been considered one of the top running back prospects in this year's draft following a stellar career at Wisconsin. He finished as the NCAA's No. 6 all-time leading rusher and was the first player in history to rush for more than 6,000 yards in any three-year span.
His draft stock received a major boost when he flashed his blazing speed at this year's combine and he has now been pegged as a bonafide Day 2 pick heading into the draft.
Of course, there are still a few knocks on Taylor's game. He lost a total of 15 fumbles during his college career and this is a surefire way to land in Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians' doghouse. Meanwhile, there are still some questions regarding his skill set as a viable pass-catcher out of the backfield.
Although the Buccaneers have pegged running back Ronald Jones as their potential workhorse heading into the 2020 NFL season, he still has yet to prove that hen can handle a heavy workload on a consistent basis.
It will be interesting to see if they opt to use one of their early picks to bring in a complementary option.
