Sunday's Super Bowl 55 matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers pits two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks in Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady in a winner-take-all contest. This is not the first time these two get to face off against each other. As a matter of fact, Mahomes recently admitted that it was actually a previous encounter with Brady that helped Mahomes take his game to the next level.

Mahomes opened up about the conversation he and Brady had shortly after Brady's New England Patriots defeated the Chiefs for the AFC title two seasons ago. According to Mahomes, Brady's message stuck with him:

“It was affirmation of what I’d been doing the whole year, that I was doing it the right way,” Mahomes said Monday, via Frank Schwab of Yahoo Sports. “As a young quarterback you don’t understand that. You try to put in as much time and work as possible and try to win as many games as possible, and for him to come talk to me and show me that respect, from Tom, it meant I was doing it the right way. Obviously I have a ton of respect for him and everything he has done.”

Being the ultimate class act, Brady went out of his way to send some words of encouragement for Mahomes after the tough loss. Brady made his way to the Chiefs locker room after the game to speak with a young and dejected Mahomes.

So much has happened since then, and these two are now set to embark on the next chapter of their careers that have been intertwined by destiny. For his part, Brady had nothing but praise for the reigning Super Bowl MVP:

“I really admire him,” Brady said Monday. “I think he’s a tremendous player, great leader, big-time performer, always seems to play the best when his team needs it the most. Just incredibly impressed by him.”

There's an undeniable mutual respect between these two greats. However, all that will need to be set aside when both Mahomes and Brady do everything in their power to lift their respective sides to the title on Sunday.
