Jameis Winston had his best game of the season in Week 3, but he still came away with a loss. With that in mind, what should we expect from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback in Week 4 versus the Los Angeles Rams?
Last Sunday, Winston aired it out for 380 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception against the New York Giants. It took a valiant comeback from rookie Daniel Jones to serve Tampa Bay their second loss of the season.
Next up on the schedule is a Rams squad that is one of the seven teams in the NFL who are still undefeated this season. It will be crucial for Winston to perform at a high level once again in Week 4 to pull off the upset over Los Angeles.
The Buccaneers have two talented receivers on offense in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin to combat the Rams stingy secondary. In Week 3, both Evans and Godwin combined for 11 receptions for 230 yards and three touchdowns; with Evans accounting for eight catches for 190 yards and three scores.
As great as that game was for the Tampa Bay receivers, that came against a bottom of the league defense in the Giants. The same could be said for why Winston was able to succeed last Sunday.
This week, Jameis Winston and company will head to California to face the reigning NFC Champs as the road underdogs. Through three games this season, the Rams defense has been remarkable against the pass.
Los Angeles has allowed just 192.7 passing yards per game (fifth-best in the NFL) and they have only surrendered one passing touchdown in three games. As a matter of fact, the Rams have still yet to give up a passing touchdown to a wide receiver this season.
With Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib playing at a high level, it may be a bit tougher for Winston to find open receivers to throw the ball to. At the same time, the Rams pass rush has been much-improved this season with Clay Matthews joining the fray.
Of course, the Buccaneers are going to have to find a way from slowing down Aaron Donald. Due to the Rams defense being one of the best in the NFL, Winston could easily struggle with turnovers once again on Sunday.
The fifth-year quarterback is going to be under duress all game and he tends to make errant throws when he isn't comfortable in the pocket. In light of that, expect Winston to be limited to under 300 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions against the Rams.
