One of the buzzing headlines of the recent offseason was the relocation of long-time New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His departure capped off a two-decade-long tenure with the storied franchise. However, it seems like a change in scenery was the best option for both sides moving forward.

Boston Sports Journal’s Greg Bedard shared in a recently published column:

“And I will admit to you that from what I’ve heard since Tom Brady departed, the Patriots did need a vibe change in the locker room because a dour Brady, which start to crop up at the end of 2018, took its toll on the Patriots last season. It was so bad that some of his teammates have admittedly privately that it was better for all involved that Brady moved on if he was going to have the same attitude this season.”

The Patriots ended the 2019 regular season with a 12-4 record and won the AFC East division for the 11th-straight year. However, rumors began to swirl that Brady will indeed depart from Foxborough in the coming offseason.

The team went on to a disappointing run in the postseason as the Tennessee Titans pulled off the rug and scored a 20-13 upset in the first round proceedings. Rumors turned out to be true as Brady sough for a breath of fresh air and headed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the offseason.

On the other hand, the Patriots team was left hanging with a shaky quarterback situation entering training camp. However, it seems like they found their new guy under center in 2015 NFL MVP Cam Newton.

Despite entering the upcoming season with different story-lines, the two teams still share a common goal of making it to the postseason and reaching the Super Bowl stage once again.
