The Washington Capitals will head into Western Canada to take on the Edmonton Oilers in tonight's matchup. Both of these teams are in fourth place in their divisions and this will be the second meeting between these two teams this season as the Oilers won the first meeting 5-3 early last month. Both teams are looking for better playoff seeding, so who's going to come away with the two points? It’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Capitals-Oilers prediction and pick.

Why The Capitals Can Cover The Spread/Win
The Washington Capitals head into this game on the second half of a road back-to-back after last night's 5-4 win over the Calgary Flames. In fact, this is the fourth game in just seven days for the Capitals. The Capitals actually have one of the better defenses in the league and they rank eighth in expected goals against. But some of that can be attributed towards goaltending as Ilya Samsonov will look to get the start tonight. He's sporting a .901 save percentage and allowing 2.93 goals against per game. He'll look to try his best and shut down Connor McDavid and company tonight.
Why The Oilers Can Cover The Spread/Win
The Edmonton Oilers come into this game after a tough 3-1 loss to their Battle of Alberta rival, the Calgary Flames. They head into this game now on a three-game losing streak, which isn't good as they try to maintain a playoff spot. They're looking for another two points here tonight but they'll have to do it without Tyson Barrie, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Jesse Puljujarvi, etc. as they are all unlikely to play tonight. It's unclear who will start between the pipes tonight for the Oilers, but it's more than likely going to be Mike Smith, who is averaging 3.57 goals allowed per game with a .891 save percentage. He'll look to get better as a hungry Capitals team comes to town.
Final Capitals-Oilers Prediction & Pick
Both of these teams are playing for better playoff seeding. The Oilers are even fighting just to make the playoffs, to begin with. This matchup is a tough one to pick just based on the odds, but I think I'm going to go with the Capitals as an underdog on the road here tonight. The Oilers are missing about 25% of their offense due to injuries and I don't think their goaltending is going to bail them out. Of course, Connor McDavid will always be a major threat, but the Capitals are on a roll right now, in the midst of a three-game winning streak. I think they stay hot here tonight, give me their Moneyline while it's still in plus money.
