The Winnipeg Jets will head into New York City tonight to face off against the New York Rangers in this cross-conference matchup. The Jets head into this game after a 7-4 loss to the Lightning on Saturday, solidifying an end to an overall disappointing season for the Jets. The Rangers on the other hand have been tearing it up lately, heading into this game on a two-game win streak and looking to take control over the Metropolitan Division. It’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Jets-Rangers prediction and pick.

The Winnipeg Jets all but officially missed the playoffs after their loss on Saturday. The Jets have struggled defensively all season and it's unfortunate considering their offense is so talented, mainly thanks to Kyle Connor and Nikolaj Ehlers. If it weren't for them, the Jets would have been out of the playoffs since the All-Star break. It's unclear who will get the start in the net for the Jets tonight, but it'll likely be star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. He's currently sporting a .909 save percentage while allowing 3.03 goals against per game.

There has been some speculation that Hellebuyck has fallen off towards the end of this year due to fatigue and that certainly may be true. However, this Jets defense was also quite poor in front of him and an elite goaltender of his caliber would be thriving in better situations. He still has two more years left on his contract before becoming a UFA, and I wouldn't be too surprised if he gets dealt to a contending team in the off-season if the Jets decide to tank and rebuild.

Why The Rangers Can Cover The Spread/Win

The New York Rangers are really doing it all right now, going 7-2-1 in their last 10 games with a +13 goal differential within that time. Since the trade deadline, the Rangers have stepped up their game big time and even looking at taking over first place in their division. At times, it seemed him the Rangers were just a team with a superstar goaltender, but the Rangers are slowly starting to look like a Stanley Cup-contending team, especially if they can get home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs. It's unclear who will start between the pipes tonight for the Rangers, but it would not surprise me if Igor Shesterkin gets some more games to rest before the playoffs. With that said, backup goaltender Alexandr Georgiev is producing a .898 save percentage while allowing 2.91 goals against per game. He'll look to keep his offense in this game tonight.

Final Jets-Rangers Prediction & Pick

This is a game where it should be an obvious choice on who is taking home the win. The issue with that is trying to find the value in the pick. Let's face it, the Rangers are going to get the win here at home. In order to find that value though, we'll have to look at the classic 3Way Moneyline for the Rangers (-135), forcing them to win in regulation, or even take over 6 total goals (-115). However, there's a bet that parlays those two bets, and that's what I'm going to take. Rangers to win in regulation and over 5.5 goals, known as the Moneyline Total Goals Parlay on the FanDuel Sportsbook. It's listed at +180 and that's fantastic value for a game like this.
