Why The Red Wings Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Detroit Red Wings are very far out of a playoff spot at the moment, and they're fully aware of that as they're looking to play for contracts and pride at this point. The Wings are 2-6-2 in their last 10 and just can't seem to find the back of the net when they need to most. They lost last night in overtime against the Lightning, so at least they got a point out of that performance, but they're well aware to start looking towards next season. In between the pipes today for the Wings should be Alex Nedeljkovic as he is sporting a .905 save percentage and allowing 3.15 goals against per game. He'll look to stop a top-heavy Penguins team tonight and get a prideful two points out of it.

Why The Penguins Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Pittsburgh Penguins come into this game just one point ahead of the Rangers for the battle of second place in the Metropolitan Division. Whoever wins the mini standings battle will have a home-ice advantage for the playoffs, which of course everyone is very needy about. Star goaltender Tristan Jarry is projected to get the start in goal for the Penguins today as he took a beating in his last matchup against the Rangers. On the season, Jarry has a .921 save percentage while allowing 2.32 goals against per game. He'll look to step up from his last performance and play much better today against a weak Red Wings team.

Final Red Wings-Penguins Prediction & Pick

The odds for the Penguins to cover a -1.5 point puck line is currently set at -122, which is very high for a team to cover a puck line favorite. However, that shows that the line should then probably move up to -2.5, so I'm going to take the value at what it's worth right now. There's some sense going for positive money with the Red Wings puck line, but can we trust that they'll keep it close and cover? My gut tells me no. Give me the Penguins in this mid-day game.

Final Red Wings-Penguins Prediction and Pick: Penguins -1.5 (-122)
