The Dallas Stars are looking to make an underdog story run as they have forced a game seven in Calgary tonight as they face off against the Flames. This series has been a super low-scoring, intense series so far. Everybody, myself included, had the Flames winning this series pretty easily, but the Stars won't go down without a fight. Can they take down the Flames tonight and prove to everyone that they're not a team to be messed with? It’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Stars-Flames prediction and pick.

Why The Stars Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Dallas Stars have shown the hockey world time and time again that they're not a team to take lightly. Sure, they're ultimately a one-line team, focusing so heavily on their first line, but they have some decent depth on defense, especially between the pipes in Jake Oettinger. If I haven't already, I'll go on record and say this kid will win the Vezina Trophy within the next couple of years (as long as the Stars can find a way to win in front of him). In the playoffs so far, Oettinger is posting a .954 save percentage, leading all netminders in the postseason. As long as he can stay on his game and keep pucks out of the net against the Flames, the Stars have a chance to win as long as they can keep up the pressure in the offensive zone.

Why The Flames Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Calgary Flames aren't ranked in the second-seed position for just anything, they dominated in the regular season. For some reason, they haven't been able to live up to their season hype in the playoff so far and now are pushed to an all-or-nothing game seven. Goaltender Jacob Markstrom has been a huge factor in this series, showing off a .945 save percentage in the playoffs so far. The Flames have a nightmare's worth of depth on their team but they haven't figured out how to use that to their advantage yet. In a game seven situation on home ice, those things need to be figured out before the opening face-off. As long as they can keep the pressure in the offensive zone, the Flames have a strong chance of winning this game.

Final Stars-Flames Prediction & Pick

This series has truly been a goalie battle, going back and forth between Oettinger and Markstrom as all but one game has seen the under total goals. Ultimately, I think the Flames are going to win this game. They have more talent, they just haven't used it towards their true potential yet in this series. With that said, I love Oettinger and all that he's been able to do for the Stars in the regular and postseason. I think the Flames get it done on home ice tonight. The odds aren't quite there, so I might just pick them to cover the spread at +126, just to try and win some value out of this pick.

Final Stars-Flames Prediction and Pick: Flames -1.5 (+126)
