After an illustrious and successful career at North Carolina Central, premier quarterback Davius Richard declared for the NFL Draft. Richard announced his decision with a heartfelt farewell message on ‘X'.

“To My North Carolina Central Family, your unwavering support, camaraderie, and unforgettable moments have left a lasting mark on my journey that will forever be remembered,” Richard wrote. “From spirited fans to dedicated faculty and lifelong friends, each interaction shaped my path. NCCU will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for being part of my story. With God leading the way, I will be chasing a lifelong dream of playing professional football. With that being said, I will be declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft. I'm excited for the challenges and opportunities that await!”

Richard set a standard of excellence with the North Carolina Central Eagles. After a 4-8 freshman season in 2019, the Eagles quickly improved to 6-5 in 2021 followed by records of 10-2 and 9-3 most recently. In 2022, Richard led the Eagles to a 4-1 record in the MEAC. Despite sharing a title with the Howard Bison, the Eagles moved on to the Celebration Bowl, their second in school history.

In the Celebration Bowl against the Deion Sanders-led Jackson State, Richard completed 15 of 20 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown. He also ran 22 times for 97 yards and two touchdowns. In fact, Richard's second touchdown helped lift the Eagles to a 41-34 victory over Jackson State in overtime.

Over his career, Richard completed 711 of his 1215 passing attempts for 8991 yards, 73 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions. He also rushed 413 times for 2026 yards and 44 touchdowns. This season in particular, Richard threw for 2177 yards, 21 touchdowns, and just four interceptions. He also ran for 630 yards and 18 touchdowns. Richard's impressive statistics earned him a slot on all All-MEAC 1st Team and the MEAC Offensive Player of the Year Award.

Richard had two games with over 300 passing yards, five with over 200 passing yards, four with over three passing touchdowns, and three with over three rushing touchdowns. He has had so many statistically impressive games, it's hard to single out one as his absolute best this season. Against Elon, he threw for 171 yards and a touchdown, but he also ran for 114 yards and three touchdowns.

The week prior against Campbell, he threw for 256 yards and a touchdown, and he ran for 86 yards and four touchdowns. In their final regular season game, Richard completed 19 of 21 passing attempts. He totaled 386 passing yards and five touchdowns, as well as a rushing score.
