Sam Hartman has officially made his decision, joining the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football program after the ex-Wake Forest Demon Deacons quarterback entered the transfer portal. Hartman made the announcement via his Twitter account, teasing a picture of himself in Fighting Irish threads.

Sam Hartman entered the transfer portal shortly after Wake Forest football's Gasparilla Bowl win over Missouri. Notre Dame football was named as a likely destination immediately after Hartman entered the portal.

After all, Fighting Irish head coach Marcus Freeman had made it clear to then-starter Drew Pyne that the program was looking to add a quarterback through the portal, which likely played into Pyne's own decision to transfer.

Well, Freeman and company got their guy, as Sam Hartman was widely regarded as the top signal-caller available in the portal.

The ACC's all-time touchdown pass leader has fired 38-plus scores in each of the last two years while leading Wake Forest football to eight-plus wins in both seasons.

No disrespect to the Demon Deacons, but it seemed like Hartman was always better than the teams he was surrounded with.

That will no longer be the case once he arrives on campus with the Notre Dame football program. Freeman and company brought in the nation's no. 8 ranked class this year after reeling in the no. 7 class this past season.

Not only that, but the Fighting Irish exceeded expectations in Freeman's first year, winning nine games, including a thrilling Gator Bowl victory over South Carolina.

With Sam Hartman under center, Notre Dame football will be expected to take the next step in 2023.
