Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray is coming off one of the most memorable summers of his career, highlighted by his participation in Kobe Bryant's invite-only camp.
During the Nuggets' media day, Murray spoke about the exclusive camp with Kobe and shared what he has learned during his time there. The 22-year-old also admitted that he peppered the Los Angeles Lakers legend with questions on how he can improve his game and take the next step in his development.
“That was a very, very good experience to have that much talent in the gym, watching film, weight room, playing scrimmages with those guys, getting a feel for them, getting a feel for Kobe’s mentality,” Murray said, per Mike Singer of the Denver Post. “I asked him a lot of questions. It was one of my favorite highlights this summer.
“I asked him a lot of post-work, post defense. Obviously Portland tried to take advantage of that, so this season I’m trying to be able to not be a guy that’s going to be scored on like that or thought of in that way.”
Murray signed a five-year, $170 million maximum extension with the Nuggets this offseason, meaning he will surely be part of the team’s core going forward along with All-NBA center Nikola Jokic and his backcourt stalwart Gary Harris.
Beyond that, the team continues to build up talented young players after taking Michael Porter Jr. in 2018 and Bol Bol in 2019.
Either way, Murray has had an action-packed offseason and will look to come back this season with a vengeance after losing to the Portland Trail Blazers in the second round of the 2019 playoffs.
