The Denver Nuggets took care of business against the Los Angeles Lakers on NBA Opening Night for the 2023-24 season. The Nuggets beat LA 117-109 under the striking leadership of Nikola Jokic. Jokic notched a 29-point triple-double while defying Anthony Davis and LeBron James. Some have questioned Jokic's love for the game of basketball after hearing about his off-the-court interests. Jokic is known to indulge in horse racing, but clearly, he has been keeping his basketball skills crisp as ever. The Serbian center discussed his offseason routine in the wake of his recent dominant performance.

Nikola Jokic worked hard in the summer, but not too hard

NBA Analyst Kenny Smith spoke with Jokic after the Nuggets' Opening Night victory. Smith asked Jokic what his offseason looked like. This was his response:

“I was in the weight room basically every day…I was just preparing my body for the season. I think our body's our tool and if your body's not ready something's going to happen you're going to get injured,” Jokic said, via NBA on TNT.

The former MVP claimed he did not miss any days in the weight room but jokingly said that he missed as many as two months on the actual basketball court. If Jokic missed that many days, he might be the most talented basketball player in history.

The 6-foot-11 center makes basketball look easy, but there is no doubt it takes a tremendous work ethic to achieve and maintain his exceptional skill. Clearly, the Joker is dedicated to taking care of his body so he can perform at his best.

Jokic did everything on the court against the Lakers while helping to keep Anthony Davis scoreless in the second half. If the Nuggets superstar continues his superb play, a third MVP and a second NBA Championship are not far away.
