Alex Morgan had a special parting message for her long-time USWNT teammate Megan Rapinoe on Sunday. Morgan had some kind words for Rapinoe in the latter's final NWSL game this weekend, via Bleacher Report.
“Um, P, you clearly mean so much to me and all of us. And like you said, this team is in good hands but it is in good hands in large part because of you and what you've done for this team,” Alex Morgan said.
“Um, congratulations on the next chapter in life and I hope you just ride off into the sunset because your work here is done,” Morgan concluded.
Megan Rapinoe's soccer career ended in anticlimactic fashion. She suffered a suspected torn Achilles tendon injury in the sixth minute of the NWSL championship game between the OL Reign and NY/NJ Gotham FC on Saturday.
Rapinoe poured out her frustrations after the unexpected turn of events.
“It felt like just a huge pop. The worst possible outcome. I just thank God I have like a f—ing deep well sense of humor. But yeah, I mean, just obviously devastating to go out in the final so early,” Megan Rapinoe said.
“That's life; it's part of the game. I was feeling really good before the game, wasn't feeling tight or wasn't having calf issues or anything. You don't always get to have the perfect ending,” Rapinoe added.
NY/NJ Gotham FC eventually won their first NWSL title with a 2-1 victory over the OL Reign. Megan Rapinoe looked forward to finishing her legendary career on a winning note. Unfortunately, that didn't happen.
Here's wishing NWSL and USWNT legend Megan Rapinoe the best in her retirement years.
