One of the biggest stories in sports right now is the sign stealing investigation happening to the Michigan football program. Conor Stalions, a low-level staffer for the Wolverines, has reportedly bought tickets to over 35 college football games in recent years, and the NCAA is investigating if Michigan did anything illegal to obtain signs from future opponents. The NCAA rule states that in-person scouting isn't allowed, but the rules are a little bit vague, and the Wolverines may have found loopholes to work through. It's unclear at this point, and all anyone can do right now is wait and see what happens when the investigation concludes, which might not be for awhile. Ohio State football head coach Ryan Day was recently asked about the situation, but he didn't want to speak on Michigan's investigation.

While Ryan Day didn't want to speak about Michigan, the Ohio State HC did offer up a suggestion for how sign stealing can be reduced. Day believes that college football teams need to resort to methods used in the NFL, like using helmet technology to relay plays, according to a tweet from Dan Hope. Day isn't the only coach who believes that, too. Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule was also asked about the Michigan scandal, and he has similar thoughts to Ohio State's Day.

Sign stealing happens every game,” Matt Rhule said in a video posted on Twitter by 247Huskers. “There's nothing wrong with teams over there looking over trying to steal our signs. There's nothing wrong with us looking at their signs. That's why you should have mics in the helmets. Right? Like all of these coaches vote against it every year because they don't want to teach their quarterback, you know, in the NFL, each quarterback goes out there with three play calls because if I see the free safety's foot like that it might be one high I'm going to check for this play.”

The NFL has that technology, and even high school has it sometimes. Matt Rhule would like to see it come to the college level.

“But you get to college and you're watching a game on Tuesday night and you know they got the signal they're just calling a play, so, that's what makes college football, to me, that's why they score, maybe more points, but it's also why the kids are less prepared,” Rhule continued. “That's why there 100% should be – we can get rid of all the stupid signs on the sidelines and pictures of rock-stars and all that stuff, and we just play football the way it was meant to be. You go to a high school game, there's technology on the sideline, you go to an NFL game, there's technology on the sideline, you go to college, there's nothing.”

Both Ohio State football and Nebraska football have Michigan on the schedule this season. The Wolverines beat Nebraska 45-7, and they will play Ohio State in the final week of the season.
