It is a Top 25 match-up as Tulane hosts Ole Miss. It is time to continue our College Football odds series with an Ole Miss-Tulane prediction, pick, and how-to-watch.

Ole Miss enters the game after a dominating performance over Mercer. Lane Kiffin and company showed no mercy in the game. They opened the game with a three-play 72-yard drive that ended with a Jaxson Dart 38-yard touchdown pass to Tre Harris. After Mercer scored on a 75-yard run by Carter Peevy, Ole Miss would respond. Tre Harris would catch another 28-yard and a 20-yard touchdown from Dart in the first quarter. By the third quarter, Harris would add a fourth touchdown from Dart, and Spencer Sanders would enter the game to throw two touchdowns. The defense would also step up. They would hold Mercer to 235 yards, with 75 on them coming on that one big play.

Tulane also started the season with a win. Michael Pratt led Tulane on an opening touchdown drive, and he would throw three touchdowns in the first half. Meanwhile, Tulane did a solid job replacing Tajae Spears, running for 142 yards in the game overall. On defense, they were solid. They caused five turnovers while holding South Alabama to just 265 yards of offense in a 37-17 victory.

Why Ole Miss Will Cover The Spread

Jaxon Dart had nearly a perfect game for Ole Miss. In the game, he went 18-23 passing for 334 yards and four touchdowns. He had some great throws downfield, and seemingly connected on all of them, as he averaged 14.5 yards per attempt in the game. His average depth of target was 13 yards past the line of scrimmage as well. Dart had plenty of time to throw as well. In the game, he was pressured just three times. That resulted in him throwing one pass for a completion, and scrambling two times for positive yards.

Tre Harris was also a star for Ole Miss. The transfer from Louisana Tech had a great connection with Dart all game long. On the game he caught six of nine balls thrown his way for 133 yards and four scored. He averages 22.2 yards per reception while averaging 8.2 yards after the catch. Harris was a big down-the-field presence, with an average depth of target at 14 yards. He did have one drop in the game but came away with one of two contested balls. He also showed some elusiveness, making three people miss their tackles on the way to his four touchdowns.

The defense was solid in the game as well. They had 16 pressures on the Mercer quarterback in the game and three sacks. Cedric Johnson, the outside linebacker, led the way for them in causing pressure. He had three pressures on the game but did not get home for a sack. There were some issues in the passing game though. Deantre Prince and Zamari Walton, the starting cornerbacks for Ole Miss, allowed five of seven passes thrown their way to be completed. They did limit yardage, allowing just 27 yards between them, but against a player like Michael Pratt, they will need to sure their coverage up in this game.

Why Tulane Will Cover The Spread

While Jaxson Dart was near perfect, Michael Pratt essentially was. He ended the game against South Alabam with a 98.0 passing grade according to PFF. He went 14-15 on the game, for 293 yards and four scored. The only missed completion for Pratt was a dropped ball in the game. He also pushed the ball downfield, with four great long passes, and an average depth of target of 14.1 yards past the line of scrimmage. He also dealt with pressure well. Pratt was pressured six times, resulting in just one sack and another five scrambles for positive yardage.

The receiving game was also great. There was not a lot of spreading out the ball though. Only five different receivers were targeted in the game. Jha'Quan Jackson was the star of the game. He had three receptions on four targets with one drop. Still, he went for 106 yards and two touchdowns in the game. Lining up primarily in the slot, he was able to get deep a lot, with an average depth of target 26.3 yards beyond the line of scrimmage. Lawrence Keys also had a solid game. He averaged ten yards after the catch per reception while catching all four of the balls going his way. He ended up with 96 yards and a touchdown to show for it.

On the defensive side of things, Tulane had a solid pass rush in this game. They had 16 total pressures on the quarterback, leading to six sacks. Patrick Jenkins had a great game coming off the end. In the game, he had three pressures and got two sacks. Meanwhile, Kameron Hamilton came in for a few specialty stations and made an impact. He also had three pressures and two sacks, while batting one ball down at the line of scrimmage. Tulane was also fairly good in pass coverage. They had one pass breakup while intercepting two balls. Still, they allowed 23 of 28 passes to be completed.

Final Ole Miss-Tulane Prediction & Pick

Ole Miss is most likely going to win this game, but Tulane is going to put up a fight. The defensive backs for Ole Miss were not impressive in their first game, and while Ole Miss was able to get a pass rush, Tulane has a much better offensive line than Mercer. They will give Michael Pratt time to throw, and he will hit a few deep targets. This game is going to be a shootout and do not be surprised if both quarterbacks throw for over 300 yards and a couple of scores. Still, with the questions in the secondary for Ole Miss, Tulane is going to make enough big plays to stay in this game. This could look a lot like their bowl game against USC, where every time the Trojans scored, Tulane would fire back. Take the points with Tulane in this one.

Final Ole Miss-Tulane Prediction & Pick: Tulane +6.5 (+100)
