The Buffalo Bills were able to put together another successful season under Sean McDermott in 2019. Even though the team didn't win a playoff game, the Bills gave fans a reason to be optimistic about the future.

Before Buffalo steps foot on the field again, the Bills' front office understands that they need to improve the roster for next season. Over the next couple of months, both the NFL draft and free agency will dominate headlines in the sports world.

There are plenty of ways that the Bills can better their team for next year and that could include trading some players. Of course, there are going to be players that don't garner much interest on the trade market.

Therefore, those players will likely be released to give Buffalo more money to spend in the offseason. On the other hand, there are a handful of players that could be sent elsewhere in 2020. In light of that, here is one player the Bills should try to trade this offseason.

Star Lotulelei

Prior to the new league year beginning, Buffalo begins the offseason with $81 million in cap space, per Spotrac. Despite having the fifth-most cap space in the NFL, the Bills know how quickly that number can decrease.

Given that, it would be wise for the Bills to consider moving on from someone like Star Lotulelei. Back in the 2018 offseason, Lotulelei signed a five-year, $50 million contract to join the Bills.

As for next season, Lotulelei is slated to be a $10.1 million cap hit for Buffalo (second-highest on the team). Over the past two seasons, the former first-round pick has totaled 36 tackles, four tackles for loss, and two sacks.

While he contributes in areas that show up in the box score, the Bills have an array of talented defensive tackles on their roster. Besides Lotulelei, Jordan Phillips and Ed Oliver are also key contributors to the defense.

In addition, Phillips is coming off of the most productive year of his career and is an impending free agent. If the Bills are intent on keeping Phillips, then Lotulelei needs to restructure his deal or Buffalo needs to try and send him elsewhere.

Considering Lotulelei's hefty price tag, it may be tough for the Bills to find a possible suitor. At the same time, some teams are in dire need of adding a player like Lotuelei to their defense.

Above all, Lotulelei is 30-years-old and isn't part of the long-term plans for the Bills. His age coupled with his current contract are reasons why the Bills should be gauging other team's interest in Lotulelei this offseason.
