The red-hot Baltimore Orioles head to the City of Brotherly Love to face the Philadelphia Phillies. It is now time to continue our MLB odds series with an Orioles-Phillies prediction, pick, and how-to watch.

The Orioles come into this series after taking three of four from the Rays over the weekend. The result of that series was the Orioles took the lead in the AL East for the first time this year. They now sit at 61-38 on the season and are two games up on the Rays for the division title. It also gives them the best record in the American League and the second-best record in all of baseball. Overall, the Orioles have won four of their last five games, and are playing great baseball.

Meanwhile, the Phillies are trying to make their playoff run. Yesterday they got the win over the Guardians but have lost four of their last five games. In those games, they have seen Bryce Harper return to the field, making his debut at first base. The Phillies are now 53-46 on the season and are 11.5 games back of the MLB-best Braves in the division. Still, they are just a half-game behind the Diamondbacks and Giants for the last wild-card spot.

Why The Orioles Could Cover The Spread

The Orioles' offense continues to have a solid season. They are ninth in the majors in runs scored, 15th in batting average, 14th in on-base percentage, and 9th in slugging. It is truly a collective effort as well. In the last seven games, they have 28 RBIs. No player has more than four RBIs in that period, while all 13 guys who have taken an at-bat have at least one RBI and 12 of the 13 have scored a run. The rookie Gunnar Henderson has been driving in a lot as of late. In the month he is hitting just .267, but he has 13 RBIs with the help of five home runs, two triples, and a double. Henderson has also scored 15 times this month.

Ryan O'Hearn joins Henderson in having a solid month. This month, O'Hearn is hitting .346 with 11 RBIs. He has done that with the help of two home runs, including one in the win over the Rays yesterday. He also has four doubles and six runs scored in that time frame, with an OBP of .400. Ryan Mountcastle has also been hitting well. He is hitting .318 on the month with two RBIs. Mountcastle has not shown a lot of power as of late this month though. He does not have a home run this month and has not hit one since May 24th. He does have three doubles and three runs scored though.

Scoring a lot of runs is something Anthony Santander has been doing. Not only does he lead the team in RBIs and home runs, but he has also scored 11 times this month. He is hitting .269 on the month, with a .395 on-base percentage. Santander has driven in eight runs this month, with three home runs and five doubles. Still, he has been struggling with strikeouts. In the last five games, he has struck out nine times, with at least one strikeout in each game.

On the hill for the Orioles, today will be Dean Kremer. Kremer is 10-4 on the season with a 4.80 ERA. He has been solid in July. Kremer has gone 17.2 innings with a 3.57 ERA on the month. That has given him two wins in the month. The biggest issue for him as of late has been the long ball. He has given up three this month, including two in his last game. This year, he has given up 22 home runs in 20 starts. If he can go long and get to the bullpen, Felix Bautista will be able to take over the game. He has been amazing on the year, with a .96 ERA coming out of the bullpen.

Why The Phillies Could Cover The Spread

The Phillies have struggled to score as of late. They have been shut out twice in the last five games and scored just 16 runs in the last five games. Overall, they are 16th in the majors in runs scored, ninth in batting average, 15th in on-base percentage, and tenth in slugging. Kyle Schwarber leads the team in home runs and RBIs so far this year. He is tied for fifth in the majors in home runs this month, with 26, while driving in 61 runs. Schwarber has continued to drive this month. He has 18 RBIs on the month with five home runs and three doubles. Schwarber is hitting just .190 on the month, but that is right about average for him this year.

Bryson Stott is having a great month for the Phillies. He is hitting .362 on the month with two home runs and six RBIs. He also has five doubles and scored 13 times in a month. The most impressive part has been his patience at the plate. He has walked seven times this month and has a .439 on-base percentage this month. Trea Turner joins Stott in scoring a fair amount of runs. Turner has scored ten times this month while driving in five. Turner has two home runs, two triples, and three doubles. He has also been good on the bath path. He has three stolen bases this month as well.

Christopher Sanchez will be on the mound today for the Phillies. He is 0-3 on the season with a 3.06 ERA. He has been good in his last three starts. Sanchez has gone 16 innings in his three starts while giving up just five earned runs, good for a 2.81 ERA. Last time out, he went five innings giving up three runs, with just one earned. Still, the Phillies have won just three of the seven games in which he has made a start this year, with two of them being extra-inning wins.

Final Orioles-Phillies Prediction & Pick

The pitching match-up edge goes towards the Orioles in this one. Even more impressive is the Oriole's bullpen. Yennier Cano and Felix Bautista make up a back end of the bullpen that is elite. The Orioles also just acquired Shintaro Fujinami from the Athletics. The Orioles have also been playing better as of late. They will take the win in this one.

Final Orioles-Phillies Prediction & Pick: Orioles +1.5 (-194)
