Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle taught their prized rookie Luka Doncic how to do a hop step as the opposing team was taking a free throw.

Check out the gif below where Doncic looked at the Mavericks coaching staff, seemingly asking them how to do a proper hop step. At first, Doncic looked at one of the assistants. But then, Carlisle himself stepped in and showed Doncic how it should be done.

The Mavericks coaching staff are simply teaching the 19-year-old the ways of the NBA. In their game against the Chicago Bulls, Doncic was called for several traveling violations. He's been playing ball since he was a young kid and has mastered the fundamentals, but perhaps Doncic needs a little more time and guidance to adjust to NBA rules.

In their 109-115 win, he finished the game with an impressive stat line of 19 points and a team-high 6 assists. He also shot 7-of-14 from the field and 3-of-8 from downtown. After the game, Carlisle spoke about the kid, commending him for his fearlessness on the court. Per Eddie Sefko of SportsDay:

“He's a pretty tough kid,” coach Rick Carlisle said of Luka Doncic as he continues to win over any skeptics that remain. “He gets banged a lot, and he pops back up. And for a 19-year-old kid, he's put together. He's big and strong, and he's a competitor.

“It's fun to watch him go at it. He's not afraid of contact, and he's not afraid of collisions.”
