After just signing with the Green Bay Packers at the beginning of last month, linebacker Jaylon Smith has already been released by the team. Via Adam Schefter:

Smith was let go by the Dallas Cowboys then quickly picked up by the Packers, but they clearly didn't believe he was playing well enough. In two games, Smith was involved in just 27 snaps. He also had only one tackle.

The pass-rusher parted ways with Dallas because of their concern over the injury portion of his contract, but the Packers didn't have to worry about anything like that when cutting ties. He fell out of favor with the Cowboys due to the drafting of Micah Parsons, who proved to be the top option.

A one-time Pro Bowler, Smith will now be looking to latch onto another team and help them down the stretch. After all, he is a proven player in this league and should be able to fit in elsewhere.

The Packers were in need of linebacker depth, but to be fair, Smith wasn't exactly given a lot of time to make his presence felt. He played in all 16 games in each of the last four seasons. He also had 154 tackles in 2020 for the Cowboys. Needless to say, the potential is there.
