The Green Bay Packers kicked off training camp today and are hoping to turn things around this coming season. After missing the playoffs in each of the last two seasons, the Packers made major changes this offseason. Those changes weren't completed prior to today, as the team made a massive roster move on the first day of camp.

Mike Daniels, the Packers' longtime star defensive lineman, was released from his contract into free agency. It was a tough move for the franchise to make, but it saved them money and there were simply too many bodies on the line.

Reports stated that Green Bay tried to find a trade partner for Daniels, but were unable to which resulted in his release.

Following the move, the Packers sent out a heartfelt “Thank You” to Daniels via Twitter. The message was a touching quote from general manager Brian Gutekunst.

Fans in Green Bay will always remember the impact that Daniels made on the franchise. He was a top-notch leader and put up some big years. Unfortunately, his production had dropped a bit and his contract was too big to keep around for the role he would have had.

Daniels will have no trouble finding a new team to play for. There are quite a few franchises that could use some help on the defensive line.

Last season with the Packers, Daniels ended up recording 18 total tackles to go along with two sacks, and a defended pass.

Expect to see a team scoop Daniels up in the near future. He is still capable of making an impact and his presence in Green Bay will be missed.
