Jaire Alexander and the Green Bay Packers have seen veteran cornerback Bashaud Breeland beef up their secondary in a big way. He has dealt with some injury issues since being signed in the middle of the season, but he has done enough to make his teammates want him back past this season.

In a recent interview shared by Ryan Wood of PackersNews.com, Alexander opened up about wanting the veteran corner back in Green Bay.

“I need him back. We’ve built a good connection.”

Breeland also talked about wanting to return to Green Bay, which makes this sound like a fit for both sides.

“If I have the opportunity, I would. At this point in time, the Green Bay Packers have first dibs because I’m here. They can make it happen at any moment. But I’m not really worried about what the future holds right now. I’m living in the moment. I’m just having fun.”

In the four games that he has played with the Packers this season, Breeland has recorded 14 tackles, a fumble recovery, two interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and three defended passes.

Green Bay has needed a player capable of making plays like Breeland for a few years now. He is only 26 years old as of this season, which will fit into the Packers' long-term plans as well.

It will be interesting to see what the Packers decide to do this offseason. Brian Gutekunst has some money to work with and he will be looking to make some moves to round out the roster.

Expect to see the Packers try to retain Breeland. They seem to have something good going in the secondary with him on the field and Alexander's comments show just how well he has fit in.
