Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur spoke with the NFL Network Wednesday about a bevy of topics pertaining to the team and especially the news of his star Jordan Love getting a massive payday with a four-year, $220 million deal. After the news of Love becoming the highest paid player in the league and ties him for having the largest contract in history, LaFleur would speak on how it feels to have the 25-year old back at training camp after missing the first week due to contract negotiations.

Love really stepped into his own last season after sitting several years, learning behind a Packers legend in Aaron Rodgers and so far, the results have paid off throwing for 4,159 yards to go along with 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last season. LaFleur would tout the growth of the 2020 first-round pick, even saying that the “sky is the limit for him,” especially after signing the huge contract.

“Big time,” LaFleur said. “I mean, he's the leader of this team, he's the leader of our offense. Certainly, the sky is the limit for him. He's been a lot of fun to work with. As a coach, it's about the journey and the growth, the development. And to see him, not only as a football player, but as a man, maturing, and become who he has become, he's a lot of fun to work with on a daily basis.”

Green Bay is locked in on what Love can be for this team and remain perfect on the quarterback development train going from legendary players at the position like Brett Favre leading to Rodgers than now in the present with the Utah State product. However, the Packers will look for more consistency throughout the whole season as Love started to pick up the pace towards the second half of the year after a slow start.

“Just the consistency. We all know it was a little rocky at times early on,” LaFleur said. “And that's not just him, it takes all eleven, everybody around him. We have a bunch of youth around him in the skill positions. To watch everybody kind of come together, grow together, and really put together some really good football towards the back half of the season. We have to pick up right where we left off, continue to get better. These guys are all with the right mindset, they're gonna do that, I have no question about that. He's been a great leader and a great catalyst for all of us.”

Love looks to take another step with Green Bay

Still, it was an exciting second half of the season for any Packers fan as Love showed he could easily be one of the best quarterbacks in the league with the monstrous contract further proving it. The team would win six of their last eight games of the season and when it came to playoff time, Love and Green Bay would upset the Dallas Cowboys in the wild card round, opening up a ton of eyes around the league.

The run would end against the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round, but it was still a successful season nonetheless as they finished with a 9-8 record which put them second in the NFC North. The Packers open the upcoming season against the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday night, Sept. 6 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
