There were not very many shining moments for the Green Bay Packers down the stretch of the 2019 NFL season. Fortunately, running back Tyler Ervin emerged as a surprising bright spot for the team.

Ervin is set to become an unrestricted free agent after establishing an integral role for himself on Green Bay's special teams. Head coach Matt LaFleur expressed strong interest in bringing him back, via Zach Kruse of the Packers Wire:

“If I have my way, I’d love to have him back,” LaFleur said.

LaFleur's comments are certainly understandable. The Packers return game was in desperate need of a spark after finding themselves on the wrong side of history entering Week 14 against the Washington Redskins with a whopping negative eight punt return yards. Ervin quickly managed to turn things around by taking four returns for 51 yards just after being signed that same week.

Ervin remained as one fo the most productive specialist in the league during the final stretch and finished the year with 266 yards while averaging 26 yards per kick and 10 yards per punt. His presence provided Green Bah with some much-needed firepower where it had been lacking all season and LaFleur is likely intrigued by the prospect of what he can with in an entire season.

Of course, it remains to be seen just how much the Packers are willing to spend for a return specialist. Despite Lafleur's praise, Ervin was unable to etch out a role for himself on offense and that may hinder his value in Green Bay's eyes. Meanwhile, there could very well be another team scoring the market to shore up more depth to their backfield.
