The Green Bay Packers have a number of areas they want to address, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Among the most notable will be which player takes over as the teams starting running back.

The injury woes of Ty Montgomery in the 2017 NFL season forced the Packers to rely on their other promising, young options. However, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky it seems head coach Mike McCarthy is already prepared to potentially take back his workhorse role:

“Ty's a running back,” McCarthy said. “He's a damn good one. He gives us a lot of ability to play schematically any way we want to play because of being able to displace. He's been there every day too, he's in there working out. Looks great. I know [strength and conditioning coordinator] Mark Lovat is excited about where he is. I think you'll see a bigger, stronger Ty Montgomery this year.”

The former third-round pick made the transition from wide receiver to running back during the 2016 campaign and never looked back. He seemed poised to take on a workhorse role last season before broken ribs essentially plagued the rest of his seasons. As a result, he registered just 273  yards and three touchdowns while hauling in 23 catches for 173 yards and a touchdown.

It goes without saying that Montgomery's skill set as a receiver in the backfield makes him a seamless fit in Green Bay's pass-heavy offense. However, he may still have a tough time garnering a heavy workload with the emergence of running backs Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams last season.
