During Monday's 33-30 win over the San Francisco 49ers, Green Bay Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers had to roll through the game donning a bulky left knee brace to help provide more protection for his sprained MCL. It is something that Rodgers has already voiced that he wants to move on from having to wear it on the field. However, head coach Mike McCarthy has voiced that he doesn't know when the 34-year-old will be able to play without that knee brace this season, according to Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
Although it is a rather large brace that typically looks to be worn by offensive linemen, Aaron Rodgers was able to play effectively with it on during Monday's game throwing for 426 passing yards with two touchdown passes. He had his way throughout much of the contest against the 49ers' secondary being able to move the ball down the field that was largely the case late in the fourth quarter as he orchestrated two scoring drives for 10 points for the Packers.
This was all capped by a 10-play, 81-yard drive that led to the game-winning field goal by kicker Mason Crosby. Rodgers was on point with his passes on that drive despite the constant pressure he faced in the pocket. It was another performance that has added to his impressive ability to continue to light it up despite dealing with a knee injury as he's second in the league with 1,997 passing yards along with 12 touchdown passes to one interception on the season.
This is ultimately a situation that the Packers will continue to keep an eye on over the next few weeks as he works his way through his recovery from the knee injury. What should help is that Green Bay has a Week 7 bye that should provide him rest prior to playing the Los Angeles Rams. Mike McCarthy will do everything he can to protect the Packers' most valuable player.
