A year ago around this time, Tony Romo was high on the Packers, saying they “Got better more than any team I saw this offseason” and predicted the team would be a force in the playoff picture.

As anyone who follows the Packers knows, that's not how it turned out.

Following a dramatic 24-23 season-opening victory over the Bears, during which Aaron Rodgers suffered a leg injury that followed him the rest of the year, the Packers imploded and won just five more games. Then coach Mike McCarthy was dismissed within hours after the team hit rock bottom with a 20-17 loss to the Cardinals, the worst team in football last season.

Romo hasn't made any bold predictions about the team from Green Bay this year, though he is high on one aspect of this iteration of the Packers: first-year coach Matt LaFleur.

Romo went into great detail during a press conference at his annual football camp about why that is.

“I’ve always said, that system is going to help a quarterback,” Romo said. “The key is a quarterback at Aaron’s level or (Tom) Brady’s level, they’re going to be fine on third down. You need help on first down getting chunk plays.

“If you always have to be perfect as a quarterback, the game’s tougher. The idea is to get a bunch of chunk plays on early downs. You can’t just go out there and do that without throwing perfect throws.”

That's where LaFleur comes in, the offensive wonder boy earned his stripes as the Titan's offensive coordinator last season.

Romo believes he can resurrect the Packers' befallen offense. And maybe it'll even translate into wins.
