The Green Bay Packers seem to be in the market for an edge rusher, and Andy Benoit of Sports Illustrated feels that they may very well set their sights on arguably the best one available: Jadeveon Clowney.

Of course, the Houston Texans would need to let Clowney walk in order for the Packers to even have a chance to sign him, and it doesn't appear that the Texans are willing to let that happen.

Houston can simply apply the franchise tag to Clowney, and that is likely what the Texans will do.

If Clowney does become available, however, the market will be set into a frenzy.

The 26-year-old is coming off of a season in which he racked up 47 tackles, nine sacks, a forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, and a defensive touchdown en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

Clowney, who played his collegiate football at the University of South Carolina, was originally selected by Houston with the first overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft.

He played in just four games during his rookie campaign due to injury, and the following year, Clowney was very disappointing, finishing with just 40 tackles and 4.5 sacks.

Clowney then shed the potential bust label during his third season, totaling 52 tackles, six sacks, and a forced fumble, making his first trip to Honolulu as a result.

Then, in 2017, the Rock Hill, S.C. native had the best year of his career, posting 59 stops, 9.5 sacks, a couple of forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and a defensive score, earning another Pro Bowl selection.
