The Green Bay Packers are headed into a new era of football after making the bold move to fire head coach Mike McCarthy following the loss to the Arizona Cardinals yesterday. Making that move has been something that fans have been calling for over the last few weeks. Now, the search for a new head coach begins.

According to a report from Rob Demovsky of ESPN via Andrew Perloff of the Dan Patrick Show, the Packers would have interest in hiring Jim Harbaugh if he were interested in getting back into the NFL.

Harbaugh would be a great addition for the Packers if they could convince him to come back to the NFL. Unfortunately, he has a comfortable job with the Michigan Wolverines and leaving them would be a tough move for him to make.

That being said, passing up on the opportunity to coach Aaron Rodgers would be tough to do as well.

Back in his time with the San Francisco 49ers, Harbaugh became one of the most respected and liked head coaches in the NFL. He finished his time in San Francisco with a 44-19 record, including one Super Bowl appearance. Harbaugh was a dominant winner in his NFL coaching experience.

Green Bay needs to bring in a coach that will work well with Rodgers. As a former quarterback, Harbaugh could very well be the guy that can get Rodgers back on track. He may not be an “offensive genius” like many think the Packers need, but he runs a much better offense than McCarthy did.

Expect to hear plenty more rumors about who the Packers could target to replace McCarthy. Harbaugh is a big name to keep an eye on, but there is no guarantee that he will even be interested in leaving Michigan.
