Stephon Gilmore was released by the New England Patriots on Wednesday in a very shocking move. There's still a chance the All-Pro cornerback could be traded before the 4 PM EST deadline, but he'll likely sign elsewhere. There's been lots of speculation on where he could end up but according to NFL insider Albert Breer, Gilmore himself wants to play for the Green Bay Packers. Via 98.5 The Sports Hub Boston:

We're not exactly sure where Breer's sources are from, but Davante Adams did comment on Gilmore's post about the release and said “Call me.” Take it for what you will, but he would surely be a great fit for the Packers.

Gilmore is a proven corner in this league and would instantly make any team's secondary better. Contract negotiations ultimately forced his exit from New England, which was a surprise to many.

The Packers were just handed a blow with Jaire Alexander getting injured on Sunday as well. That being said, they could definitely use more depth at cornerback. With Alexander healthy alongside Gilmore, it would be one of the best CB duos in the NFL. But, Gilmore will be looking to get paid and Green Bay is currently $7 million over the salary cap. In order for him to join the team, he would have to take a restructured deal unless the Packers could pull off a trade.

It will be interesting to see what happens here.
