It may have taken longer than expected, but San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tartis Jr. more than made up for lost time Sunday. Fernando Tatis Jr. hit his first home run of the season against the Arizona Diamondbacks against closer Chris Devenski. While the 22-year-old shortstop has endured a slow start to the year, going a combined 3-for-16 over the team's first four games, Tatis Jr. proved he is more than capable of crushing balls regardless of whatever slump he may be in.

While San Diego will need a productive campaign from Fernando Tatis Jr. to break LA's vice grip around the division, the Padres more than proved they are capable of scoring runs even when their best player isn't producing.

During the course of their season-opening series against the Diamondbacks, San Diego not only took 3-of-4 games but outscored Arizona 20-10. Ironically, while Sunday's game featured Fernando Tatis Jr. getting in on the action for the first time, it also proved to be the lone run in the Padres 3-1 loss

Still, even when the team loses, getting to watch Fernando Tatis Jr. destroy balls is always a victory for Padres fans.
