Still, Panama struggled to create chances in the game. Meanwhile, the United States was solid in their first performance facing Bolivia. They scored in the third minute of the match with a goal from Christian Pulisic. They would add a second goal of the game from Folarin Balogun scoring the the 44th minute. Still, the story for the United States may have been missed opportunities. They have 20 overall shots with eight on target, while dominating possession, but still have just two goals.

Why Panama Will Win

While Panama won their last two international games before the tournament, but they were against the lower level competition. When they played better teams they struggled to produce chances, which was the case against Uruguay. Ismael Diaz was a primary scorer in the Gold Cup, but he did not play in the first game with Uruguay. He could make an appearance in this one.  In the Gold Cup, Panama also got a lot of their scoring on the counter. Michael Amir Murillo does that. The defender and midfielder played in just three games in the Gold Cup but had three goals and assists in those games. He scored the goal against Uruguay and was second on the team in progressive passes.

Erick Davis will be another major factor in this tournament for Panama. He had five assists in six games at the Gold Cup. He is a specialist in free kicks and corners. Davis did not have the assets in the game but did have an expected goal from an assist rating of .1, only one of two players with a non-zero rating. Orlando Mosquera should be in goal for Panama. He allowed six goals on 21 shots on target in the Gold Cup. He has also been solid in recent friendlies. The major concern will be the amount of shots on targets he faces. He struggles with high shot volume at times, but he has also shown he can perform in pressure situations. Against Mexico in the Gold Cup, he allowed just one goal on seven shots on target. Still, last time he allowed three goals on just seven shots against Uruguay.

Why USA Will Win

The USA has been solid in their recent international game. In non-friendly games, including the Gold Cup and Nationals League, this USA squad has not found a loss. Their elimination from the Gold Cup came in penalty kicks after a scoreless draw. Christian Pulisic was a stud in the first game with a goal and an assist. Pulisic has been solid for the United States in international play. In 56 matches played with 45 starts, he has scored 24 goals and 12 assists all time. He moved the ball well upfield as well. He had ten progressive passes and seven progressive carries, by far the most on the team.

Another star in the game was Foloarin Balogun, who scored the other goal, while also moving the ball well up the field. Still, the story was missed opportunities. Ricardo Pepi did not score, but he had an expected goal total in the game of 1.6 goals. Antonee Robinson did not score but had an expected assists total of 1.4. Overall, the United States has an expected goal total of over 2.5 and should have found a third goal, considering Christian Pulisic scored with an expected goal total of just 0.1.

Matt Turner is expected to be in goal from the United States. In four games in the Gold Cup, he stopped eight of ten shots on target, coming away with one clean sheet. He also saved 50 percent of Penalty Kicks in the Gold Cup. He stopped all three shots he faced last time out.

Final Panama-USA Prediction & Pick

Panama has struggled to produce chances in recent international play. While the United States did not capitalize on all of their chances, thye stifled Bolivia last time out. There should be more of that in this one, as the United States wins with ease.
