Carolina Panthers defensive end Bryan Cox Jr. was cited for speeding, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia on Wednesday, according to WSCO's Blaine Tollison.
Said Tollison: “Troopers say they stopped Panthers DE Bryan Cox Jr. driving 90mph in a 65mph zone today on I-85 near Kings Mountain. They say they cited him for the speed, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia.”
Cox is the son of Bryan Cox, a three-time Pro Bowler and All-Pro linebacker for the Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, New York Jets, New England Patriots, and New Orleans Saints.
The defensive end went undrafted out of Florida in 2017. He signed with the Panthers quickly after and spent his rookie year playing both on the practice squad and the active roster. He wound up playing seven games, starting none and tallied six tackles, and two for a loss. In his second season in Carolina, Cox played in 11 games, again starting none, and recorded ten tackles, including one for a loss.
The Panthers resigned Cox earlier in the offseason on an exclusive rights tender. Wednesday was the team's last training camp session of the summer in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
After resigning with the team, The Athletic's Jourdan Rodrigue noted that “he is a player the staff feels can add versatility on the line — especially if given reps on the interior as coaches previously expressed.”
It's unclear what the Panthers or the NFL will do following the incident. His contract, according to Over The Cap, has no guarantees.
