The Carolina Panthers’ pick of wide receiver DJ Moore at No. 24 overall in the draft was a popular one at the time. Panthers legend Steve Smith was very complimentary of the Maryland product, while Cam Newton even called up his coach, Ron Rivera, to thank the team for the pick.

A couple months later, and Moore has continued to show what a savvy pick he was for the Panthers. According to Albert Breer of The MMQB, the rookie wideout “looked the part” in his performances during OTAs and minicamp.

It’s certainly a promising sign for the Panthers that their first-round pick has looked as impressive as he has this offseason. Obviously, it’s important not to overstate these offseason performances, but it’s at least a start to what could be more things to come from the rookie.

The Panthers could use more production at the wide receiver position after last year’s disappointment. They were clearly short of other options aside from Devin Funchess after they traded Kelvin Benjamin to the Buffalo Bills.

Moore will now look to provide that more reliable secondary target which quarterback Cam Newton desperately needs along with veterans Torrey Smith and Jarius Wright. Incoming second-year player Curtis Samuel could also make a bigger impact after he struggled with injuries in his rookie year.

With the expected improvement of that receiving corps, as well as running back Christian McCaffrey possibly taking a step up, this Panthers offense has the potential to be a lot more potent than it was last season.
