It's official. Rookie quarterback Mac Jones will run the offense for the New England Patriots.

Just in case you have been too busy watching videos of cute kittens on YouTube, Jones got the QB1 status for Patriots coach Bill Belichick after veteran signal-caller Cam Newton got cut. While the move came as a surprise to many, it's hard to argue with Belichick, who only has 189,586 Super Bowl rings to his name (unofficially).

One person who wasn't really surprised with Jones getting the nod: his girlfriend. Sophie Scott has been with Jones for two years. She reposted the Instagram Stories of her friends to celebrate the good news (via Awesemo).

Scott has been very excited for Jones since he was drafted 15th overall by the Patriots, with several Instagram posts professing her support. Scott now works as a physical therapist after graduating from Alabama, where Jones starred for four years.

With the way things unfolded for the Patriots, the 22-year-old Jones will be under even more pressure to perform right away. Former Patriots Jermaine Wiggins recently said picking Jones over Newton was a “huge mistake,” while some fans have also expressed doubts. After all, Newton was more accomplished.

But Mac Jones will get his first crack at proving them wrong when the Patriots take on Tua Tagovailoa and the rest of the Miami Dolphins at Gillette Stadium on Sept. 12. For sure, Sophie Scott will be cheering her lungs out for her man.
