In his eighth Super Bowl appearance, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady came up on the short end of the stick for the third time in his career.
According to ESPN Stats & Info, it also made Brady the ninth straight player to win the regular season MVP and lose the Super Bowl in the same campaign.

It was a disappointing result from yet another huge outing by Brady, who posted a Super Bowl-record 505 passing yards along with three touchdown passes, zero interceptions, and a 115.4 passer rating. He also became the first quarterback in NFL history to record multiple 400-yard passing performances in Super Bowl history.
The 40-year-old did most of his production in the second half, throwing two of his three passing touchdowns to erase a 10-point deficit and give his team a 33-32 lead midway through the fourth quarter.
However, it was his counterpart, Nick Foles, who made more key plays for the Eagles, putting up a huge performance of his own by completing 28-of-43 passes for 373 yards and three touchdowns that earned him the Super Bowl MVP award. He also held a 106.1 passer rating and recorded a receiving touchdown in the process of becoming the first player in NFL history to throw and catch a touchdown in the Super Bowl.
It was a nearly flawless performance, as his only real mistake came with just over two minutes left in the game when he fumbled after Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham hit him with a timely strip sack. That said, he did give the Patriots a shot to potentially send the game t0 overtime with his Hail Mary heave to the end zone with the time expiring, but it was batted down as time ran out.
Although Brady came up short in the Super Bowl, his performance only further strengthens his resume as arguably the best quarterback ever to play in the NFL. Keep in mind, this will only provide him more motivation when he returns for his 19th season in 2018.
