It has been an eventful few years for the Oklahoma City Thunder, to say the least. Following the bitter departure of superstar forward Kevin Durant, point guard Russell Westbrook was essentially forced to put the team on his back en route to perhaps the greatest individual season in NBA history.

Despite all the changes that occurred within the short amount of time, the Thunder revamped their roster with the addition of superstar forward Paul George. Although the dispute between Westbrook and Durant had been well-noted, George did not let that affect his willingness to play with the reigning MVP, according to ESPN's Royce Young:

“What happened between them two is between them two,” George said. “They had a long history together. I respect the history they had together. It wasn't on my behalf to want to know. I didn't want to know. Whatever wasn't working, or whatever was working that we didn't know, media ran with it and thought they were against each other; it was between them.

“We were in a new situation, and I wanted a fresh start with Russ. Whether there was something that went bad between those two, I didn't need to have any opinion going into this. I wanted know Russ and get to know Russ for myself. And he's been an unbelievable teammate.”

George had spent some time with both Durant and Westbrook as a member of Team USA in the summer of 2016. However, the dynamic of the Olympic team is vastly different than how the NBA works.

That said, it seems George was making sure to keep an open mind amidst all the controversy surrounding the Thunder. Fortunately for Oklahoma City, his versatile skill set has allowed him to adapt to any role this team may need. Regardless, the Thunder will need to figure out a way to make sure George can manifest a key role that will encourage him to stick around beyond the 2017-18 NBA season.
