Netflix could be landing Mission: Impossible star Rebecca Ferguson for its upcoming Peaky Blinders movie. Cillian Murphy is set to reprise his role of Tommy Shelby.
Jeff Sneider of The InSneider is reporting that Ferguson is being eyed to star in the Peaky Blinders movie. This would add even more star power to the cast if true.
The news comes a week after the movie was green-lit. Deadline reported that Netflix officially made the move to produce a Peaky Blinders movie with Murphy. This comes hot on the heels of Murphy winning his first-ever Oscar for his performance in Oppenheimer. Netflix and BBC Film will collaborate to make the movie.
Tom Harper will direct the movie. He recently directed Heart of Stone for Netflix with Gal Gadot. He's also known for directing the BBC miniseries, War and Peace. Previously, Harper directed the second half of the first season of Peaky Blinders.
Production on the movie will commence later in 2024. The series creator Steven Knight is penning the script. Executive producers of the movie include Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren, and David Mason. Other producers include Caryn Mandabach, Guy Heeley, Knight, and Murphy.
Plot details are being kept under wraps. However, Knight has said that the movie will be set during World War II.
What is Peaky Blinders?
The original Peaky Blinders series ran for six seasons from 2013 until 2022. It depicted the crime game of the same name in the aftermath of World War I. Steven Knight created the series and wrote every episode of the series.
Peaky Blinders helped further put Cillian Murphy on the map. He first gained recognition for his performance in 28 Days Later. He subsequently starred in Red Eye and Batman Begins. From there, Murphy would star in Breakfast on Pluto, Sunshine, The Dark Knight, and In the Heart of the Sea.
Perhaps most known for his collaborations with Christopher Nolan, Murphy has appeared in six of his movies. This collaborative relationship began with Batman Begins and has continued to the present day. Cillian Murphy has appeared in the Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Dunkirk, and Oppenheimer.
For his performance in Oppenheimer, Murphy has become an Oscar-winning actor. He received a Best Actor award at the 2024 Oscars. Oppenheimer also won several other awards including Best Picture. But now, he will return to one of the roles that made him the star he has become.
Who is Mission: Impossible star Rebecca Ferguson?
Rebecca Ferguson is an award-winning actress who first gained notoriety for her role in the Swedish soap opera Nya Tider. She also starred in an episode of Ocean Ave. In 2004, Ferguson made her big screen debut appearing in Drowning Ghost.
Her big break came in 2013 when Ferguson starred in the miniseries The White Queen. In the series, she played Elizabeth Woodville. Subsequently, Ferguson starred in Hercules with Dwayne Johnson and landed her role in the Mission: Impossible series.
Since 2015's Rogue Nation, Ferguson has been a mainstay of the Mission: Impossible movies. She has appeared in the next two sequels, Fallout and Dead Reckoning Part One.
Outside of Mission: Impossible, Ferguson is known for her roles in The Girl on the Train, The Greatest Showman, Doctor Sleep, Men in Black: International, and Reminiscence. Ferguson also stars in the Dune franchise as Lady Jessica.
