On Tuesday afternoon, the New Orleans Pelicans announced on Twitter that veteran backup center Alexis Ajinca will officially have to miss 4-6 months of action after he underwent successful surgery on his left patellar tendon this morning.

Ajinca also posted a photo on his official Instagram account earlier today with an update on how his surgery went.

“Second surgery went well! Thank you to my family, friends, and fans for the support! Can’t wait to get back on the court!” Ajinca said while giving a thumbs up and a smile to the camera.

The 29-year-old center, who has not played in a single game this entire season due to bilateral knee injections in October and a separate surgery he had back in December on his right patellar tendon. Ajinca suffered from tendinitis in his knees, as the Pelicans originally announced that the center would miss the first 4-6 weeks of the regular season.

However, he did see action in two games during the 2017-18 preseason and played a total of just 21 minutes during those contests.

The 7-foot-2 center signed a four-year, $20 million deal with the Pelicans in 2015 and still has one more season left on his contract with the team.

Alex Ajinca, who was selected No. 20 overall by the Charlotte Bobcats in the 2008 NBA Draft out of France, averaged 5.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in 39 contests played last season.

Hopefully, the big man is able to make his way back to an NBA court by the start of next season and can eventually resume a healthy career in the near future.
