On May 17th, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler was arrested shortly before taking up his second round in the 2024 PGA Tour Championship. The star golfer appeared to drive past a traffic jam outside Valhalla Golf Club, which sparked an altercation between him and a police officer. Fellow Tour star Xander Schauffele comically revealed how he and his golf group made fun of Scheffler's mug shot from the incident.

First, Schauffele acknowledged Scheffler's tough situation and was impressed with the way he handled it.

“He handled it really well in Scottie Scheffler fashion. He's a good dude. As soon as I saw it, I thought it was a prank and then I saw it on the news and then I was like Holy Smokes this actually happened,” Xander Schauffele said via a video chat with Barstool Sports.

Then, Schauffele discussed the hilarious roast he and some other PGA Tour stars threw at Scheffler afterward.

“We have a group chat with our phyiso, our crew. It's like me Gary, J.T., Jordan, Scottie, Pat, so the boys were heckling Scottie a bit…just enough,” Schauffele revealed.

One of Barstool's video chat hosts joked that the group needed to change the profile picture to Scottie Scheffler's mug shot, and Schauffele was two steps ahead of him.

“Obviously, that happened,” Schauffele said before everyone erupted in laughter.

Poking fun at Scheffler's situation might help him overcome his woes. The star golfer finished the 2024 PGA Tour championship T8 after going to jail for the traffic incident three days prior. Scheffler described the incident as a “misunderstanding” and was concerned more about the tragic event that happened earlier that morning.

PGA Tour's Scottie Scheffler battles his traffic incident, looks to bounce back

When Scheffler drove past a police officer at the traffic stop and appeared to drag the officer with him, which reportedly led to a heated arrest and legal charges. Just hours before that, a vendor worker for the PGA Championship reportedly passed away after a bus struck the man outside the golf course.

Scheffler expressed his condolences for the victim when breaking his silence on his arrest.

“Of course, all of us involved in the tournament express our deepest sympathies to the family of the man who passed away in the earlier accident this morning. It truly puts everything in perspective,” Scheffler said in a statement, via ESPN's Jeff Darlington.

Scheffler also provided insight into his incident with the police officer.

“This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers. It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do. I never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I’m hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today.”

Scheffler will continue his legal battle whilst trying to stay at the top of the PGA Tour world. The 27-year-old had a rough weekend, but his fellow golfers performed well. Xander Schauffele won the PGA 2024 Championship after an exciting down-to-the-wire finish. It will be interesting to see how Schauffele and the rest of the PGA Tour crew fare for the rest of the year.
