Former NFL running back Phillip Lindsay has agreed to sign with the XFL's Seattle Sea Dragons, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
“A two-time 1,000-yard rusher, Lindsay should have ample opportunities in June Jones' offense to showcase himself for an NFL return and is still only 28,” wrote Pelissero on Saturday.
Lindsay was signed by the Denver Broncos as an undrafted RB out of the University of Colorado Boulder in 2018. He had a three season run with the team, before brief stints with the Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts.
He rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons before suffering injuries in 2020 that significantly affected his production at the NFL level.
Lindsay signed with the Colts in May of 2022, before being released just three months later. After being signed to the practice squad, he was elevated during Week 5 against the Broncos, before being re-assigned to the practice squad shortly after.
He was released by the Colts on Nov. 10 and hasn't played in the NFL since, spending the last five months as a free agent. He's accumulated 2,848 rushing yards, along with 529 receiving yards and 20 total touchdowns throughout his four full seasons in the league.
The 5-foot-8, 190-pound RB was a Pro-Bowl selection with the Broncos in his rookie season in 2018, and will now take his talents to Seattle and the XFL in 2023.
The Seattle Sea Dragons are currently 5-2, good for second in their division. Former NFL RB Phillip Lindsay figures to be an important piece as the XFL squad makes a push for the postseason.
