There's at least one person who is all-in on the Blake Griffin: Stan Van Gundy, head coach and president of basketball operations for the Detroit Pistons.

Van Gundy helped orchestrate the trade, and did not seem to mind much about Griffin's age or injury history. It appears he'd make that deal every time he had the opportunity, per Nick Friedell of ESPN.

“The guy's a five-time All-Star. He's been an All-NBA guy, [one of] top 15 guys in the league. He's only 28 years old. We know the injury history — that's the risk on it. But that risk was worth it because of the talent we're bringing back.”

The team's record also did not come into play when thinking about making the deal, per Friedell.

“If we had won 10 in a row and Blake Griffin were available, we would have done the same thing,” Van Gundy said.

Obviously the Pistons were making the trade for Griffin no matter what the circumstance was. It was an aggressive move, and a game-changer for the Pistons.

Van Gundy values Griffin as a player, and that much is clear. But Griffin does have a difficult history with injuries, and it's always possible for the gamble not to pay off in the end. The Pistons have to hope he stays healthy for the entire time he's there.

It's unclear whether or not that will happen. But right now, the Pistons got an All-Star player that will make the team better immediately. That's a good risk to take.
