Detroit Pistons forward Henry Ellenson did not exactly get the news and boost of confidence he was probably hoping for Tuesday morning.

Entering his third season with the Pistons, Ellenson has averaged 3.8 points and 2.2 rebounds. Ellenson spent most of his time playing for Detroit's G-League team during his rookie season. While Ellenson does offer some 3-point shooting upside, he does not see enough minutes on the floor to make much of an impact. Perhaps things change for Ellenson and he re-signs with Detroit or he signs elsewhere and receives more playing time.

The former first round pick out of Marquette was taken 18th overall by the Pistons in the 2016 draft. Ellenson was fantastic in his time at Marquette, averaging nearly a double-double in 33 games with 17 points and 9.7 rebounds. So far that production is nowhere to be found from Ellenson since entering the league three years ago.

Since the Pistons were able to trade for Blake Griffin before the trade deadline last, the power forward position seems to be locked up. Griffin averages 35.8 minutes a game for the Pistons right now. That doesn't leave too much floor time for other players at his position hoping for playing time.

The Pistons hardly sub out Griffin and Andre Drummond, most of the rotation consists within the backcourt players. It appears Ellenson has been fighting an uphill battle since being drafted by Detroit. Since drafting Ellenson the power forward position has consisted of Tobias Harris and now Blake Griffin. Ellenson will have the rest of this season to make the most of every opportunity going forward.
