The Detroit Pistons along with their hockey neighbors, the Detroit Red Wings, are set to unveil the largest center-set scoreboard in the world when Little Caesars Arena opens its doors next season.

While the Pistons debuted a big scoreboard of their own in 2014, this one is bound to blow any expectations out of the water.

Daktronics, the company that made the scoreboard for Tigers Stadium in 2012 and the current board at the Palace of Auburn Hills in 2014 is once again in charge of building the new scoreboard in the brand-new LCA, the company announced on Monday.

The massive 5,100-square-foot scoreboard is set to feature 11 million LEDs, linked with an under-mounted video display and a full wrap-around high definition display throughout the arena — totaling 16.5-plus million LEDs and measuring an outstanding 13,500 square feet.

Each side of the center display is set to measure 28 feet high and 43.5 feet wide with under mount displays set at 7 feet high and 9.5 feet wide.

“Little Caesars Arena will give fans the best entertainment experience available, including this incredible scoreboard and display system from Daktronics,” said Tom Wilson, president and CEO of Olympia Entertainment, in a media release. “Today fans have very high expectations for the size and quality of displays and the information they provide. This system will exceed fan expectations in the seats, in the concourse and in new spaces like the expansive Chevrolet Plaza. Fans seated in the ends of the arena will experience the same size display as those seated on Little Caesars Arena sidelines, an amenity that few other arenas offer today.”

This new arena comes with much bigger expectations, not only technologically, but performance-wise, as the Pistons look to back up the city's investment with improved play over the next few seasons.
