There's never any love lost between the Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs. The AFC West rivals have been battling it out on the gridiron since the 1960s, when they were two of the eight teams comprising the American Football League. The rivalry has become comparatively tame in recent years, though, as the Chiefs, under the mild-mannered Andy Reid, have won 10 of the last 12 games against the Raiders.

Jon Gruden knows that, and did all he could last season to fan the flames of the oldest rivalry in football despite his team falling twice to Kansas City. Not all was lost in Gruden's efforts, though.

Asked by The Fresno Bee's Anthony Galaviz which team he dislikes most, Raiders quarterback David Carr gave an answer that would make his coach proud.

“Chiefs. I just don’t like them,” he said. “When we signed Derrick Johnson, he’s such a good guy, for like at least three weeks I still didn’t like him. I told him, ‘You used to try to rip my head off.' He turned out to be an awesome person.”

Johnson, by the way, retired in 2018 after playing just six games with the Raiders. He spent the previous 13 seasons of his career with the Chiefs.

Carr, 27, was considered one of the league's most promising young quarterbacks as recently as 2017. His luster wore off last season, though, when he threw just 19 touchdowns compared to 10 interceptions and led the league with 12 fumbles.

Despite those struggles, the Raiders, who went 4-12 in 2018, have expressed support for Carr as the team's franchise quarterback going forward.
