Raiders' quarterback Derek Carr sustained what appeared to be a groin injury, during the first quarter of the team's game against the Chargers Thursday night, and is questionable to return, per the organization's Twitter account.

Driving towards the end zone as the opening quarter drew to a close, the quarterback was flushed from the pocket towards the sideline on a third-and-goal situation from the 2-yard line. Scrambling to find an open receiver, Carr eventually pulled up in obvious discomfort, and was forced to step out of bounds losing three yards on the play. Though no defender had touched the QB, the injury appeared significant as he was only able to gingerly walk off the field towards the locker room.
Their drive stalled, the Raiders were able to convert a short field goal attempt, drawing the team to within four points of the visiting Chargers, as the second quarter commenced.
Should Carr be unable to return, backup Marcus Mariota will be tasked with pacing the offense, as Las Vegas looks to secure a desperately needed victory. Entering the day with a record of 7-6, the Raiders are looking to bounce back from a dispiriting loss on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. Already a game behind the Baltimore Ravens for the final wild card spot, Las Vegas can ill afford a defeat at the hands of an opponent currently under .500.
Operating on the first drive following the loss of Carr, Mariota completed a 35-yard bomb to tight end Darren Waller to give the Raiders a 10-7 lead. While losing their starting quarterback is never an ideal situation, a couple of similar passes by Mariota will likely ease the pain for the beleaguered Vegas club.
